Voting Machine Are really Trustworthy??

Just reading about US Voting history and found that during the 2004 presidential election where there has been a major difference found between the exit polls results and official poll results approximately just opposite and people tends to start believing that there must be some tampering of the vote machine is done, and again during the election of Wisconsin of 2012  Election where the election result were in the favor of Walker and the result of exit poll where the ratio were expected were 50:50 and the result came out as 53:46 and the people have started asking for recount.

So Question over here is

  1. Is recounting going to solve the problem ? if yes then why not we replace the electronic voting machine back to the paper ballot only and solve this problem at the first shot only.
  2. Why are we wasting money and human effort for the recounting? If we cant trust these voting machines any more?

After reading your post, I thought I might comment on your suggestion that replacing voting machines with paper ballots would solve the problem of election fraud. While there are certainly some sorts of fraud that are possible with electronic voting machines, but not with paper ballots, it seems good to remember that there are many fraud vectors with paper ballots. With paper ballots, as well, individuals can vote multiple times, unauthorized individuals can vote, votes can be destroyed or forged votes added, counts can be manipulated, and the past record of votes can be altered by tampering with ballots – making any recount unreliable. There is also the question of whether the paper record accurately reflects the voter’s intent – remember the famous “hanging chad” question in Florida a few years ago. While electronic voting machines certainly leave open opportunities for fraud, paper ballots do not solve all problems!
